Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice

About the Role

As a team member in the Fleet department, the apprentice heavy duty mechanic troubleshoots, performs repairs, maintains and modifies our extensive fleet of pickups, trailers, heavy haul trucks and equipment in both a shop and service truck. The apprentice heavy duty mechanic provides support to the senior mechanics to ensure vehicles and equipment are ready to move to project sites when scheduled.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete general cleaning of shop facilities including but not limited to inventory sorting, tool organization and daily housekeeping

  • Clean and inspect company vehicles and equipment upon return from field operations

  • Assist in the completion of annual CVIP's

  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals

  • Assist in the diagnosis of faults or malfunctions and the adjustment or replacement of defective parts, components or systems

  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the completed work meets manufacturers specifications and legislated requirements

  • Complete timely preventative maintenance as required

  • Record required service reports for all completed repairs and maintenance Assist in rig-up modifications of new vehicles and trailers

  • Ensure all work is completed according to safe work practices and procedures

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations

  • Other duties as required


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2nd or 3rd year apprentice preferred

  • Knowledge of industry processes, procedures, and policies

  • Heavy equipment experience

  • Registered Alberta Apprentice for Transport Certification or Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification

  • Class 5 license and clean driver's abstract

  • Overhead Crane Certification
